From the author: "In 1980, Wisconsin ranked forty-eighth in the states in the amount spend in support of the arts. Now, in the Twenty First Century, we rank forty-senventh. Progress comes slowly in the home of the Progressive Party. For that reason, I am doubly indebted to Roger Hanson of Eau Claire for his patronage in this offering. In many ways, northern Wisconsin resembles Appalachia, especially in the number on blonde children! Because of their race, creed, and color, "affirmative action" is a faraway dream to them. This is an attempt to leave something of their culture on the library shelves. Remember, the majority of poor people in Wisconsin are still white. Thank you."
