How the Stage Coach Grew the Great Northwest: Tales of Pioneers and Settlers

Glen R. Patzwald

  • $ 2000

Immigrating into the primitive state of Wisconsin in mid 19th century pioneers needed a reliable method of transporting themselves and their goods. Stage coaches answered that need, appearing as soon as passable roads were built. As the populated areas expanded, so did the stage lines, accompanied by hotels, liveries, restaurants and all the other businesses necessary to civilization. Entrepreneurs recognized the opportunities for businesses and gladly invested in stage coaches, horses, buildings and personnel to supply safe and dependable transportation/ Until they were supplanted by the iron horse and the horeless, the stage enjoyed primacy. Little has been recorded for posterity of stage coaches and this modest volume seeks to remedy that omission.
