More fantastic ‘Psychological-Thriller Music’ just out from Scott Stratton and friends. Radio/Fried is his latest EP release, is a combination of two personal projects, Radio Mars and Sigmund Fried, aptly named Radio/Fried. The players on this EP are Scott Stratton (guitars, vocals), Jeff Lang (keyboards), Doug Mason (guest vocals), Paul Cassarino (drums), Danny Neilson (keys), Matt Boylan (bass), Denny Dickson (cymbal), Jennie Neilson (sax & vocals), and Bethanie Hope Langerdorf (vocals). The first track, ‘Wolf’ has an upbeat, groovy T-Rex-like feel with a lush, full-sounding chorus. With off-kilter rhythms and explosive outbursts of energy, you can’t help but bobble-head along to this well-structured tune. ‘Green’, track 2, is an ethereal, psychedelic tune radiating undertones of Alice ‘n Chains and of Pink Floyd. You could really loose yourself in this one. Doug Mason’s vocals completely hypnotize on track 3, ‘Sir Real’. Apparently he nailed this multi-layered, ‘turn on your mind’ piece on the first take! I appreciate that this music is void of paradigms and accepts no rules or laws of musical genre. Satellite #9 is a bit heavier and features wailing, doom-like guitars and glimmers of Alice Cooper in the vocals. The last track, ‘Creators of Mars’ is exquisitely haunting and features an electric-diatribe of a guitar solo laid down by Scott. This music has a textural and conceptual richness that invites. It’s cerebral, moving and aims to rattle the senses. Pure, quintessential and unadulterated, with a certain grandeur rarely attempted in rock.
