The Old Crows Hunting Club
The Old Crows Hunting Club chronicles the hunting exploits of a groupof men and their pffspring for seventy years. Club memberswere from the Melville Irish Settlement, Lafayette Township, Chippewa County, Wisconsin. The early deer hunting trips taken by the Club were a big undertaking. Food was purchased for the ten-day trip. Along with food the tent, wood stove, axes and saws to be used to cut the supply of wood, baled straw for beds and the floor, bed clothes, hunting clothes, guns, the kerosene and lantern for light were packed into the lumber wagon. Tucked in a corner of the wagon would be Lee's homemade Snake Bite Oil, a mixture of "Mountain Dew" and maple syrup, for medicinal emergencies only of course. The wagon was hitched to the team and the two-day trip was underway. These hunters have all passed to the Great Beyond but their colorful stories told through the generations live on in the writings of Francis Gannon. We hope you enjoy these stories as much as he enjoyed telling them.
